Mercenaries Guild

We Do Stuff!

Prospective Members

In order to join the Mercenaries Guild, you must go through our testing period. Every member (including the founder) has gone through this system and so must you. Don’t worry though, if you’re a kind person and have some skills (in Tremulous, writing, art, management, servers, or something else), you’ll likely get in in a month.

Why Join Us?

  • We have the kindest players: after all, that’s what we’re on about.
  • We’re active, doing things like doing projects to improve Tremulous for players in our spare time.
  • We focus on teaching, learning, and fun (”I play for fun” –[LLJK]What?) above kill counts or game wins. (Ultimately, that makes kills and wins)
  • We have a philosophy.
  • We develop our own tutorials and resources.
  • We have our own servers, which anyone can play on: PureTremulous and PureTremulous2, along with other and private servers.
  • We are brothers, very close to each other, working together as much as possible.

Read what people are saying: Guild Reviews.

Requirements:

  • You have to stay somewhat active. If you simply join and never do anything (communicate with members/help someone/compete) then there really isn’t any point to you being there anyway.
  • You have to be a nice person. This varies of course by how you define the word, but if you are one of the people who try to constantly flame and kick new players, or are easily provoked to anger and constantly causing trouble, this is not the place for you. If you are racist, sexist, or anything along those lines you are not welcome.
  • No griefers. If you find joy in causing chaos and attempting to ruin the game for others, you are our enemy and have no business in the guild.
  • No hackers/crackers. We are about developing skill and community, not about developing programs that invalidate either.
  • You have to have a decently clean ban record. If you get banned from every server you play on, chances are you’re an not a very nice person, and likely a griefer. If you do get banned for something that isn’t your fault or by accident, try to clear it up with the server admin in a calm and respectable manner. If you’re a new player and get banned by an admin, or you think some admin has it in for you, just explain that to us and try to learn from your mistakes. Players who are constantly being banned, however, will not be permitted.

What You Must Do To Get In

In order to get into the Mercenaries Guild, you have to obtain recommendations from current members, as well as meet the time requirements. The number that you need is calculated using the simple formula that goes like this:

Number of Active MG Member / 4 = Number of Recommendations Needed for Entry

Currently, the number of recommendations required is 6.

This is the general entrance procedure:

Sign up on our forums, state your intent. You must also write a short paragraph stating who you are and why you want to join (as much information as possible). Make the reasons relevant: some recruits apply without even appearing to know what we’re about, which does not help their chances. You will be added to the list of recruits, and we will discuss you (what we like and dislike) in a members-only forum. You must do the following:

  • You should wear your }MGR{ tag to get attention.
  • You must be an MGR for 1 month before you can even be recommended (so we can get to know you).
  • An internal MG vote is possible to bypass the 1 month waiting period.
  • MG members must spend at least 2 hours in-game with you before they can recommend you (you may or may not know if they are MG)
  • MG members must spend at least 6 active hours with you out of game (IRC chat, in our forums, or by e-mail for example) before they can recommend you.
  • A positive recommendation is a vote ‘yes, I want you in’.
  • a negative recommendation is a vote ‘no, I do not want you in’.
  • An MG member may not vote for you if they know you in real life.
  • MG members may negative recommend you after they had positive recommended you (or vice versa).
  • MG members must write why they recommended you (although you may not see it).
  • Who recommended you is public; Who negative recommended you is not; however, a recruit is allowed to know why they were negative recommended, but not by who (unless that person discloses)
  • MG’s Recommendation Officers may reject a recommendation if they think it breaks the rules.

Our tag color standard: (Note: these tags are optional, and you can change the colors if you like.)

^1}MG{ }MG{ = Full members
^1}MG^5R^1{ }MGR{ = Recruits
Standard is to have them in front of your name.. such as ^1}MG{ PIE
Do not use the tags if you are not in the clan, have been kicked out of the clan, or are not intending to join.
Be kind, be patient, and you'll get in. (Suggestion: don't beg for recommendations, people hate that.)
