"Some people give a monetary tip to those that save their lives, such as lifeguards. Do you think this should be customary?"

Is English not your first language, out of curiosity?

You forgot to mention the weird green background text that looks glowy in only IE.

Well, it sounds reasonable, I guess.
But one very important point: Usage of "U" instead of "You" are frowned upon severely in any forum. Just a hint.

Also, in case you have not noticed, the wierd glowy text has a button to itself on the post form.

See?

Duh. But it's only glowy in Internet Explorer.

Ya... soo...

I made a unilateral decision and removed that nonsense from the theme.  :)

Is that like Cow Tipping? Just kidding :P
I'm gonna be a lifeguard, can't be certified yet (not old enough), but I would encourage tips ;)

Simple. Get Internet Explorer.

Why the hell would you want to _get_ Internet Explorer, lol. It only runs on Windows (afaik) and it comes with every Windows system. If you're getting anything, you're getting _something else_. I think a lot of the people online who encourage you to get browser X don't even care which one as long as it's not IE.

I wouldn't tip someone if they inadvertently saved me, at no risk to themselves, or merely as a byproduct of helping themselves.

Are you serious?
They just saved your life. You would be DEAD.

Well, also, I'm not sure tipping _anyone_ really makes much sense. I mean, if they're being paid to do X... why should you feel obligated to give them extra (and for anyone who's been to a restaurant in North America, you know it's an obligation a lot of the time)? Similarly, I don't see why I should be obligated to give _more_ money to someone being _paid_ to do a job. However, if you're really happy with the service, you might want to do so. I'd call it based on the situation :P

I wouldn't be grateful if they saved me by accident, or never intended too.  Heck, a failed murder attempt is saving you in a way.

Because they aren't paid much.

Waiters/waitresses don't get paid that much at all and frequently depend on tips to get by. They often get paid even less than normal by the management because they're expected to earn tips.

Many of the lifesavers in Australia are volunteers.
If anyone deserves a tip, it's the volunteers.

I second that.

I don't know if I would tip a person if they saved me. I don't think I would be able to tip them if I got attacked by a shark because I would be severely bleeding.

Yeah, well. If you're physically able, of course.
