Title: Game Rotation Post by: khalsa on March 31, 2008, 08:33:42 AM Howdy y'all
So I've slowly started playing other games and like with most things, get more enjoyment out of them playing with friends. Proposal: Every two weeks or so we rotate to playing a new secondary game with our MG-MGr buddies. This just means that when all the PT servers are empty, or you are not in the mood for tremulous, or whatever reason your first alternate choice should be the secondary game assigned at that time. Playing with you guys is fun, and I want to do it more, and in other games. Game requirements: Free, Cross platform (linux/win (nobody cares about macs)). The ability to run our own server easily and being open source is a plus. We've been playing warsow a lot lately (or at least the few of us in IRC have) so I'll put that on the list, but not to begin with. Suggested game(s): Digital Paint http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/news.php A quake2 based standalone game. Basically paintball, can be lots of fun with a lot of strategy around CTF. TONS of maps. I suggest this one to be our first game. Warsow http://www.warsow.net/?page=home Another q2 based stand alone game. Fast paced FPS with a focus on movement. Server is running on the lolcat and we play all the time. Armagetron Advanced http://www.armagetronad.net/ 3d Tron cycle game. Server is running on lolcat, we used to play this back in the day and it was lots of fun. (goooooooo double binds). BZflag http://www.bzflag.org/ 3D tank battle game. I know some of you have played this before.. I never 'got' it. Glob2 http://globulation2.org/wiki/Main_Page RTS where you dont have to do everything manually, playing over net can be lots of fun, does not require a server. Freeciv http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Open source civilization. I fail so hard at this game it's not even funny. Crossfire http://crossfire.real-time.com/ cooperative multiplayer graphical RPG and adventure game. Looks interesting World of Padman http://padworld.myexp.de/index.php?news Q3 based game. If the funky artwork, excellent maps, and 3D breasts don't get you - my punchy will. There are tons more, and if this picks up I'm sure y'all know more than me as I'm the newbie gamer of the lot. So what do you guys think? An easy way for }MG{ to branch-out to other games and we all know "variety is the spice of life" Khalsa Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on March 31, 2008, 08:53:56 AM Sounds fun. I'll want Plutocracy when we finish it.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Exclamation on March 31, 2008, 10:36:40 AM Good idea. Ive been busy with school lately but highlight me on irc when you are getting a game together.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: KillJoy on March 31, 2008, 11:28:51 AM Why stop there maybe you should extend into other consoles.

Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: khalsa on March 31, 2008, 11:39:08 AM Many of us (me) don't have any consoles. We do all have computers.
Khalsa Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: 3of12 on March 31, 2008, 11:50:44 AM This sounds like fun. =D
If you guys don't mind, I'll tag along when my schedule permits. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on March 31, 2008, 12:07:15 PM I'm sure we won't mind :)
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Atom Eve on March 31, 2008, 01:10:50 PM I've played all of those games at one point or another, and think it'd be a lot of fun to get back into them on an on-and-off basis with the rest of you guys.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: tyranis on March 31, 2008, 03:04:07 PM Add spring to the list and maybe gloom and nexuiz. Great idea Khalsa.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on March 31, 2008, 04:42:43 PM My only complaint is that FreeCiv is so damn hard to learn and each game takes so damn long. I'm not sure we'd even figure all of it out in the two week limit :P
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Atom Eve on March 31, 2008, 04:52:47 PM As much as I enjoy playing FreeCiv, games can take hours/days at a time depending on the settings. And it's not like you can just jump into a game with other people at any time, so I'm not really sure it'd be a good choice for this type of thing.
I used to play Crossfire with some friends, and that was something that I really liked. It's a really neat mix of Gauntlet, Nethack, and the MMORPG genre in general. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: benmachine on March 31, 2008, 04:53:35 PM (nobody cares about macs) :( I'll join in where I can I guess :P Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Rocinante on March 31, 2008, 10:48:59 PM (nobody cares about macs) :( I'll join in where I can I guess :P Screw them, let's start up a Spaceward Ho! game :> Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Atom Eve on March 31, 2008, 11:21:50 PM Stupid Mac users and their updated Spaceward Ho! clients.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Exclamation on April 01, 2008, 12:34:05 AM Urban Terror is a pretty fun game too.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: supertanker on April 01, 2008, 05:07:57 PM Hey, I used to map for both BZFlag and Paintball II
If anyone wants, I can eventually get a site up with the files... Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: TRaK on April 02, 2008, 12:01:54 AM This is a great idea.
I've been on a little break from trem lately, been playing Urban Terror and Open Arena a bit. Just released a spankin' new map for UrbanTerror, too :D Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on April 02, 2008, 09:10:27 AM Is Urban Terror completely free now, or does it require some game. Does it run Linux?
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: tyranis on April 02, 2008, 01:29:44 PM It's standalone and runs on windows/linux/mac, though I have never been much of a fan of it.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on April 02, 2008, 02:55:54 PM Can't be too bad. I remember thinking it was cool a couple years back.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Medic on April 02, 2008, 06:33:18 PM Urban Terror is good if you're a counterstrke fan. I tasted it and spit it back out.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Raytray on April 06, 2008, 07:28:35 AM true combat elite isn't stand alone but still fun.
urban terror is fun to watch for me. (fire plays it) TA: Springs is also fun depending on the mods/map you play. Legendsthegame.net anyone seen this before? I played this two years ago, no idea if it's still worked on or dead though. It's a tribes clone. free and on nix/win I couldn't really get into freeciv, but I did play Civ3 by sid miers or whatever, and that was fun. Paintball was alright but I came back to trem after a week or so. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: tyranis on April 06, 2008, 11:47:13 AM We could play tremx for the heck of it.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Rocinante on April 06, 2008, 11:58:04 AM Well, it seems the current 'fav', Paintball, isn't available for Macs. Or if it is their client is hidden very well. But I started thinking about this, why is it that I haven't been joining into Tremulous when I get a moment, but if Khalsa says "Hey we're playing Warsow come on in" I fire up the client?
It's because people other than you guys suck. Anyway.. back to gathering motivation to get some housework done today. So far I've been 100% successful at failing to do that :> Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Vortexx on April 11, 2008, 07:35:42 PM I'm a big fan of Padman, personally. Love the gameplay as a break from the strategy of Tremulous. Oh and hi, MG forum noob here. *waves*
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Rend on April 11, 2008, 08:23:10 PM Hello vortexx :) You should join us on puretremulous.com as well.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Navi on April 13, 2008, 06:52:37 PM true combat elite isn't stand alone but still fun. TA: Spring is nice, as is Scorched 3D. I recommend adding at least one of those in for RTS fun.urban terror is fun to watch for me. (fire plays it) TA: Springs is also fun depending on the mods/map you play. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Atom Eve on April 13, 2008, 08:05:56 PM Well, Paintball was fun for a bit, but I'm pretty much over it entirely now. Are you going to be picking another game to try out together soon, Khalsa?
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: deathonice on April 15, 2008, 12:13:36 AM FreeCiv is Free Civilization 2. They're onto Civilization 4, complete with gorgeous graphics and near-epic system requirements ;)
Civilization 3 isn't multiplayer without the Play The World expansion, so that pretty much rules it out, even though it's probably dirt-cheap by now. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: David on April 15, 2008, 07:14:42 AM CIV4 is the most awesome game ever.
Works fine with wine too. Only problem is it takes all week. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on April 15, 2008, 09:36:39 AM I think "free" is a criteria though.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: khalsa on April 15, 2008, 09:38:38 AM The Next game is WORLD OF PADMAN!
Get your Punchy's ready people, the server should be running on the lolcat sometime today! Khalsa Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: supertanker on April 16, 2008, 05:40:13 PM It'd be grand if I could actually play any of these. :/
Wait, I know what the next great game should be! Networked TremZork! > connect d.mercenariesguild.net Server is for low ping only > connect d.mercenariesguild.net or else die Connection established. Loading map... > Join humans You are in a room. It is dark. There is a dretch in the corner. > Shoot the dretch The dretch leaps at you before you can shoot it and bites your head off. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on April 18, 2008, 01:06:25 AM But it's still somewhat funny, you meany mean :)
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Shadowgandor on April 21, 2008, 01:22:13 PM It's not an fps but if you're looking for a free 'good' quality game, you might want to check out this (http://lunia.12foottall.com/main.asp).
The game is called Lunia, it's an action MMORPG. No, don't stop reading just yet :D Anyone ever played secrets of mana on the snes? Well, this game is kinda like that, only in MMO style. Wait, a video says more then words: Basically, it's all realtime, it requires timing, skill and brains. You play through episodes, all cut down in multiple stages (maps) that you need to complete. The story is so so, evil dark lord blablabla, it's interesting enough to keep your attention but it's nothing big. I'm having a hard time trying to explain it, just watch the vid and you'll know wether you could like it or not. ps: The community sucks there, so it would be nice to talk to some players who know more then the following words: Idiot, noob, lol, etc (no, this usually wasn't aimed at me :P). Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Garoth on April 21, 2008, 04:31:44 PM Lol, tags.
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: deathonice on April 21, 2008, 06:42:28 PM Lunia looks like a wonderful game. I'll have to download it sometime. Battle for Wesnoth is for All OS's and free, is it not?
Lunia kind of reminds me of Tales Of Symphonia, for an unknown reason. (I think there is a sequel for that game coming out :D) Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Rend on April 21, 2008, 09:53:06 PM Welcome to the forums, Shadowgandor. Feel free to recommend any games, most other FPS's suck anyway :)
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: deathonice on April 21, 2008, 11:35:01 PM Heresy to the sacred genre will be punishable by ownage! :P
RTSs are nice too, if we can find a decent free one. Starcraft is always fun, though not free. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Shadowgandor on April 22, 2008, 08:02:38 AM Lunia kind of reminds me of Tales Of Symphonia, for an unknown reason. (I think there is a sequel for that game coming out :D) Tales of the abyss?:)@Rend Thanks, wasn't sure wether you guys only wanted FPS's are anything ^^ Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: Navi on April 22, 2008, 09:07:57 PM Lunia kind of reminds me of Tales Of Symphonia, for an unknown reason. Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: tyranis on June 30, 2008, 10:36:10 AM Anyone interested in starting in starting this up again?
Title: Re: Game Rotation Post by: khalsa on October 22, 2008, 09:43:16 PM I am but need more active people, 1v1 is only good in warsow.
