hahahaha.

Yeah I was unaware of XKCD when I picked my moniker. I wasn't even aware of Randall's name until I had been reading it for over a year.

I don't know the details. I just know that the MG dev server has a ping of 450 opposed to the Puretrem ping of 600 (The ping limit booted me out).

Try using "gksu" - it's essentially a graphical interface to sudo.

But I agree with David that it would be much better if you fixed the permissions so that you could play it unprivileged. Otherwise you're one buffer overflow away from catastrophe.

On some systems you need to use "visudo" (as root) to edit it.

thanks for the speedy response, Do I need a special editor for the sudoers file? I was told that there's a special version of vi for this, but I'm not sure what it's called.

You really really shouldn't be doing it with root....
But aside from that, in the file /etc/sudoers, there should be a line something like "username ALL=(ALL) ALL", change it to be like "username ALL=(ALL) ALL, NOPASSWD: /path/to/et +set fs_game bobot", and then sudo shouldn't ask for a password for that command, so you should be able to link to it.
The username may be a group name or something.  It will probably be one of the last lines in there.

Hi guys, I need to start a program with super user permissions, but I really don't want to open the terminal each time and sudo the program.
I have to type this every time I want to start said program:
Quote
gen@gen-desktop:~$ sudo et +set fs_game bobot
and I just want to have a custom program launcher on my panel, perhaps linking to a shell script, which leads me to my question:
is it possible to start a program with super user permissions by including the sudo command and the password in the script?
If so, please could someone tell me how, or point me to the appropriate source/s?

ps. The reason I want to know this is because the mod I wish to load requires full permissions, else it does not function properly ('cannot write to hunkusage.dat')

Dev server is hosted on the same box, unless you are talking about edev.

Yep. But we Australians pay in the Aussie Dollar, which is worth an average of .75 US. Though it IS lower than that at the moment.
