Yeah, this is probably one of the most off topic topics ever, but really though, how well can you sleep? I thought of this topic last night, while in bed awaiting my mind to take me away. How long does it take for you to fall asleep?

Well, a lot of people say I have an over imaginative mind that results in the lack of sleep every night but doesn't everybody? Sometimes, it takes me about half an hour to fall asleep, maybe an hour. What are the other reasons people can't sleep?

When I was younger I would go days and days before sleeping. I just couldn't go to sleep.

Now I can sleep/wake mostly at will.

With your mom? Sure.

But seriously, folks Wink

Nah, not really. I tend to wake up randomly. I get up 30 minutes after I'm supposed to, also Wink

It takes me around 10-20 minutes to go to sleep.  I always wake up about eight hours after I go to sleep without alarms and one hour with naps.  I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in ages, either.  I have night terrors and wake up exhausted.

Sometimes, I just need to close my eyes and I fall asleep the minute I lie in bed.
Sometimes, I'm awake for almost the whole night because of night terrors, like Navi has I guess.

I dunno what's wrong with you folks, but I get great nights of sleep on a consistent basis. If I've been drinking heavily I tend to have bad nights though. It takes me no more than 10 minutes to fall asleep, sometimes I'm gone before my head hits the pillow. I don't have bad dreams(usually), and if I do I'm back to peaceful sleep in minutes.

If I am having trouble sleeping(which is very rare), I tend to think about some elaborate alternate reality where I start my own band, or become a standup comedian. I'm usually asleep before I get to the part where I'm world famous.

I usually fall asleep during really boring commercials on tv. I guess it's pretty easy for me to fall asleep.

Asleep within 5 minutes, awake early and without an alarm -- but only if life is not stressful! However, I've been discovering that stress is really more of an choice than a fact. I'm messing with my sleep schedule again. I plan to start waking up early like I used to.

I find that I absolutely need my 8 1/2 hours of sleep each night. If I don't get it, my body complains and takes it out on my be making my oversleep until it's satisfied. I also need to go to bed around the same time every night, or else my body gets very confused. I have a whole routine for slowly "winding down" before bed which involves TV and/or reading, a snack, and usually video games. So yeah, it takes we a while. I can't just "go to bed" without going through my routine to help my body to relax. I am also NOT a morning person.

On the other hand, I had a roomate last year who grew up on a farm and was used to rising with the sun. Before falling asleep, he say to himself "I think I'll wake up at 7:34 tomorrow" and then promptly at 7:34, his his would open, and he'd get up and be instantly and completely awake, regardless of how many hours he slept. I hated it Tongue.

I sleep fine mostly (unless I had a 10 pm coffee binge but then I deserve it Tongue ), my problem is that I never get enough sleep because I want to get so much done, which makes me tired all the time, which makes me get less done Wink .

Life is actually so easy without my own computer. I have to borrow a computer whenever I want to do something, so this means that whenever I don't really have anything to do, I don't use a computer. Of course, when I do have a computer, I just waste time on it constantly. So now, I have a lot of free time! As such, it's easy to get a lot of sleep, meditate & contemplate, wake up refreshed, and do well in school.

Perhaps to those that have a hard time sleeping well, you should attempt to simplify your life. The paradoxical truth is that in order to simplify, you must do something that is hard. Something hard for me, for example, would be giving up my computer as a Comp-Sci major. The result, though, is far less stress, greater happiness, and an easier life.

I had a friend once that was a native of Canada. His people lived on the continent (the so called Indians) for as far back as their history goes and they had virtually no major technological developments. Is this because they are stupider than other countries? Not really -- it is because they have a different understanding of life. To paraphrase my friend, "We just wanted to live... out there, in nature, in balance, happily and simply."

And I'm sure they had great sleep Smiley

It usually takes me at least 30 minutes to fall asleep. Often an hour or more. However, when I do fall asleep, I can sleep forever.

I used to only need about 6 hours a night. Any more than that and I just wouldn't fall asleep. One day in the summer before high school I just started having a fog hit me that I never came out of until I started getting more sleep. It just caught up with me all at once, I guess. Now I'm pretty damn bad if I don't get 8 hours, and it rarely takes any time to go to sleep regardless. I can function okay on 7 hours, but not if it's for more than a day and a row.

OH BOY BEIN' OLD! Sad

It can take me several hours to go to sleep, because my mind keeps running into the night, usually replaying all the songs I've heard the day before (YOU try sleeping with "Cheek to Cheek" and "Flamoco Loco" playing in your head!)
I often imagine complicated alternate realities but it usually ends up keeping me awake :/

When I need to, I can wake up within 5 minutes of a predetermined time, but I usually just sleep until ~10:00 AM
