IRSeek

So.  Had a dude today ask about getting IRSeek on #mercenariesguild.
For those of you who don't know, IRSeek is a bot that logs everything and makes it all public and easy to search.  Were this a purely tech support chan I would see no reason to say no, but as it is, well *shrug*.

(Should also point out they have changed a lot of late, bots are all called IRSeek* & opt-in etc.)

If we ever do choose to publish logs, I'd rather be in full control of it. We are more than able to do this ourselves.

Yes I did read all of that at the time >_>.

My opinion as of right now is leaning towards no, I only posted this as I was approached by them and expressly asked if we wanted it, and I said I would ask.

Yeah I'm just not seeing a reason to do this with #mg. It's 95% not a tech support channel.

I also vote no, simply because I'd find it harder to relax and unwind if I knew we were constantly being recorded.

Of course, I'm also absolutely *certain* no one on the channel is logging so they can put all my stupid replies on the QDB when it gets back up.

I guarantee that most of the channel *is* logging. That's kind of just the way IRC works.

But most of us will never look at those logs, and they most certainly won't go onto the public internet for no real reason.

I can only think of two times I have gone looking at them, and both of those were QDB related >_>.

I grep my irc logs at least once every other day. Mostly because I'm forgetful, but also because I do a lot of stuff over IRC

I've been in channels that do this, and I find it helpful.  I can search through the archives before asking an obvious question.

I'm not opposed to it at all for any public channel.  It doesn't really fit for a priveledged channel though.
