Nope Cheesy

Once you are fully accepting of your situation and not attached to constantly seeking happiness through things like video games and junk food, you become happy and calm. Here is an example:

Imagine you're watching some TV and having a good time <3. But then a thought races across your mind which reminds you about homework or assignments. Even the presence of this thought brings you some unhappiness and stress. Then you would put it off and try to watch more TV, but that just makes the problem worse -- every time the thoughts of work cross your mind they get more and more stressful as the deadline approaches. Eventually, you are forced to do your work to get the grades (or whatever) and start doing it, which brings you great stress and unhappiness -- especially since it's so close to the deadline. You might even feel like you don't have time to finish...

And the worst part about this is that it _repeats_. Every time you attach yourself to your current state of happiness (like watching TV) and push away the state of unhappiness (doing work), you teach yourself to do this more and more. Eventually your life becomes a cycle of seeking happiness through doing things that please the senses and trying to avoid things that your mind tells you are unpleasant.

And as such, you are constantly becoming stressed, unhappy, and worried.

So what do you do? Why is Garoth not stressed?

It's pretty easy, really. Do the opposite of the cycle. Don't attach yourself to your happiness. If you have no attachment to your current happy state -- like watching TV -- then you have no _reason_ to get upset when that state of mind is threatened. As such, you do work early and without any suffering attached. Your assignments are done, so you don't feel the pressure of deadlines. Eventually you find that you have more and more free time because you don't waste any in that state of avoidance of something that can't be avoided. You know the one -- you need to do work, so you go to the bathroom, check your e-mail, get a snack, read some news... and theeen get to the work.

I know, easier said than done -- but it's possible. This kind of method also works for just about anything else in life that upsets you.

Nope, not stressed. Unless you have trouble eating, shitting, or staying warm at night, you probably shouldn't be stressed.

If you are, change what you're doing, or take up a vice. Vices are good.

The ironic thing, is the young man thinks he knows what stress is.  For him, it truly is stressful, but later he realizes that the 'stress' of his youth was not stressful at all, and what he is experiencing now is MUCH more stressful.  Then, even later in life the old man looks back on the 'stress' of his life, and understands that it was a quenching that has made him what he is now.  Of course, I am speaking of the man that LEARNS, and not the bitter victim.

I think that stress is only stress as long as it lacks perspective.  Ironically, only time, the rarest of commodities for the stressed young man, provides the perspective needed to eradicate stress.  Fortunately, time waits for no man, and passes whether you have any or not.

One thing that usually makes me feel better is similar to what Silver said --

No matter how hard a time is now, everything in life is impermanent. Think back to the pain, suffering, and stress you've had in the distant pass and notice how it no longer bothers you now. Similarly, the pain, suffering, or stress that you feel at the moment (or in the future) will be an artifact of the past in no time.

Better yet, "time waits for no man" -- as stated above. As such, know that even if there is the pressure of a deadline looming, it will come and pass. After it passes, you will feel relief either right away or in the future.

You have to be careful with this policy though. Some kinds of stress or suffering will compel you to take action against them, and if you philosophically reject or tolerate these kinds rather than 'giving in' to them, you may find that your problems will not resolve themselves.
There IS such a thing as suffering that lasts as long as you do.

xD made my day.

--- I'm not to stressed my everyday life is sort of overwhelming at times but thats okay. The biggest part is when I goto school at 6AM and find out theres a huge test or something and i'm not prepared. Then after school and sports I come home to a family who doesn't give me more then like 10 minutes alone at a time...

--- But other times it can be quite good if you think about the positives in life of which you already have. Like maybe a significant other, games, sports, tv, and just everyday hobbies. Then you don't care as much about how bad your life sucks and you cherish what you already have.
This sort of pertains to what Garoth was saying with way less words xD.
