Hello Everyone,

I'm known as Aaron5367 throughout Tremulous. I'm a former member of KoR, and after reading (or skimming through) that post, I hope you can tell that I'm sick of KoR's nonsense. I'm looking for a serious clan, with some very good administrators and active members. I've contributed so much to KoR, like I worked on Tremx-KoR for a very long time, and I also reported numerous malicious people on one of the servers.

I'm 16, though I hope I'm not judged by my age. I know a little bit of various languages such as Python, Ruby, and Perl. I'm overall best with C and PHP however. I own my own website (though it's very basic) at http://www.aaron5367.com/ (I hope I'm not advertising >_<). It's currently summer for me (as of this application) , and since I have no life I'm always on Tremulous, the IRC, and all that fun stuff.

Currently, nearly everything I know I've taught myself, or learned from websites/friends. My school is a small school, I have a class of 90. We only offer two computer classes that go over basic Windows applications (no programming). My GPA is a 4.0 (though that's on the weighted scale), and I'll taking College Algebra and Trigonometry this year (which is quite a feat for a school my size).

I'm a big Unix geek, I currently run Arch Linux on both of my active computers, and on my home server. I know quite a bit (though not as much I as wish) about bash scripts, cron jobs, ssh(ing) and the likes. I'm also a former Windows user, so I still have quite a lot of knowledge residing in that area. I can do some basic stuff with SVN as well, and I'm used to commiting to servers. I really hope that even if I don't get in, I can help some of you with your MGDev project, as I'm ecstatic about being even being a small part of the dev team.

I'm looking forward to questions about myself, and getting to know some of you more!

Hi!

Nice post, I'm impressed. Tremulous development is slow and, uhm, not overly active. However, you might want to check out the project I'm working on. I'm not going to advertise too heavily here, but it's called Plutocracy and you can learn about it from garoth.com. Talk to me if you're interested.

But anyway, nice application. Certainly, your kind of people are generally liked around here. I think at the very least you may be able to get involved in whatever development that may be going on. No promises, no certainty, of course.

(And no, I think most members don't care about your age.)

Edit:

Oh yeah, and Arch is awesome. A few of our members use it, and I play around with it on my laptop.

Aaron,

I apologize for putting you on the spot, but I'm curious.  Do you feel a need to be part of a clan/group all the time?  I gather there is some political stuff that has gone on with KoR that you didn't care for.  I don't know the details (nor do I really want to), but I'm curious about whether this is a single instance, or something that will become a pattern.  ie, join a group, get into a beef with one or more members, quit/leave, then immediately join another group because you feel some need to not be alone, and start over again.

I ask because I think its better to let you speak to it rather than make an assumption about you (that could be wrong)

Thanks for the nice replies guys Smiley.
I'll look into that project Garoth, seems interesting.

---

Silver, I was considering waiting quite a while before applying to MG, but after reading about the month delay, I decided that it'd be best to apply now. Really, I did think about being clanless for a little while, and that sounded like a good idea. But as I talked on the #mercenariesguild channel on freenode, I realized how different this guild is from KoR.

I'm sure you can see by now, that KoR has grown very far apart.

Oops, I'll fix my post. Upon looking it up, I'm glad I applied for a Guild and not a clan, Smiley.

correct me if I'm wrong, but a guild is more of a collective society of like-minded people, and a clan has the connotation of being tribalistic.

Our guildiness is mostly down to the fact that MG is not a group formed to play Tremulous competitively together, so we rarely come into contact with the clan scene and it doesn't seem appropriate to call ourselves a member of said environment. Our remit is more in out-of-game activities, such as development, documentation, discussion, and administration (which unfortunately does not start with a D).

More or less the same reasons that we allow people to be members of clans outside MG. We don't provide the same kind of opportunities as a clan does.

Which is all the more reason I'd like to be in your Guild benmachine.
