Unless it is a headpounce.
No, pouncing damage is not affected by what part of the hitbox it hits - it all counts as torso hits.

Its all these little bits of useful info that makes tremulous so hard to master.
Although I know loads of these little bits and still suck...
You could always blame lag.

That nub is a hax0r.

Obviously it was an insane 1 in a million kill that I pulled off, if you get lucky they will try jumping first (like they did in my case).

But blaming lag when you have 50 ping is almost impossible.  :D  I guess you could always blame it on a lag spike and just respawn :Telenode:

I do it all the time. My computer randomly lags every half hour for ten-twenty seconds. Usually I'm in base so I don't give a shit. Cheesy

By lag I mean make trem choppy and lagometer gives random blank spots instead of a steady green.

I wanna add one. . .

Goon speed trick: Instead of bunny hop pouncing, pounce into the ground and jump at the exact time that you release the pounce button.  While in the air, charge another pounce quickly, release pounce and jump at the same time at the moment you land again.  Repeat.  It doesn't usually count as a pounce, so it won't kill anyone most of the time, but there are some rare moments.

The lucifer cannon and painsaw emit idle sounds that can warn aliens of your approach, but if you switch to blaster your main weapon goes silent.  If you then walk, your ninja-like approach can only be picked up by sense (imprecise) or sight (often busy)
This can be dangerous but is often worth it.

I like to do only that first part and after bouncing off the ground the first time, just keep bouncing for a high speed bunny hop that is entirely as lethal as a simple, mundane jump.

Human tip:  When going against an alien that isn't a dretch or basilisk, predict when the alien will chomp/swipe.  Crouching before then will keep you from being dealt a head shot; the alien will either hit your body or miss you completely (too high up).  Then, you can get back to confusing the alien.

Just don't do this when you have a helmet, especially not against rants 0_o

Anyway, I should probably contribute, so here goes.

Always use wall-walk as a dretch, never use the ground.

it takes some getting used to, but you will grow more comfortable on the walls and use your sense more, because uneven walls will kill you LOS.

Oh and setting your WW speed to fast/instant may give a you a headache at first, but will help in the long run.

Hmmm ok on atcs making an all trapper base really helps (or at least a base with mostly trappers) and...jumping on walls with hummie helps avoid those nasty head bites  Grin Just my two cents.

Oh Yeah, personally, I like to jump on walls as often as possible when I'm playing on the human team.  I also like to walk on the ceiling and shoot poisonous barbs out of my mouth.

Some maps have hallways that have ledges on the side.  Jumping on those ledges disallows a floor dretch from scoring a hit to your head.  I believe that he was referring to those.

If you climb a near vertical slope that ends with a flat top, then jump at just the right time as you're passing the top edge, you can get monstrous hight + some forward velocity.

Example: stacks of boxes with that grate thing overhead, where goons hide. You know on that map where the humans move their base up or under the stairs and aliens don't get a good base move. Anyway.

You run at the stack of boxes, hit wallclimb. As you reach the top and "tip over," try jumping. It might take a few attempts, but if done right, you go flying like crazy. You can actually _easily_ land on that top grate thing. From a third person perspective, it's like you have wings.

It is also possible to do the same trick on that other map. You know, with the two bases, the hall, and that big random building in the middle? With the stairs? Kind of yellow-ish? Big blue energy field? Yeah, anyway. You can do this trick on the middle thing as you climb up its wall.

I'm terming this "the tipping jump" -- wallwalking kind of tips over, then you jump.
