What you see there is Quicksilver.    It's a console-like launcher and much more. 

Edit:  AUGH I can't even post a picture until I have 10 posts or something. . . . brb spam time.

My dock there was kiba-dock. You can get the .deb file here: http://www.forestofthought.com/Other/kiba-dock_0.1-1.2_i386.deb

Otherwise, find it yourself. To add stuff to it, you need to put launchers in you .kiba folder somewhere... tell me if you need more help with that. Kiba is cool because it has a physics engine built in. The icons can bounce all over the screen in crazy ways...

(Oh, and you need a composting manager running (such as beryl or compiz) to make it transparent)

Currently, though, I'm using Avant Window Navigator. Seriously awesome. I think it'll get into Gnome for Gnome Topaz. Here is what the current AWN can look like... (very customizable).



Note, yes, I know about quicksilver. We have something like that for Linux, but I've forgotten what it is and I don't use it. Probably not as good.

That's wmii. I fully recommend it to people who are sick of relying on the mouse for everything. Beautiful window manager.

It looks more interesting with some windows open, but this is the desktop thread. So that's what the desktop looks like. There's no start menu, and no context menu when you click. It's all driven by keyboard, (Alt-P brings up a list of programs) and becomes second nature after a day or two.

Heres my update. I think I have finally settled on dwm. My productivity is up like 10x since switching to a tiling wm. A few other people have asked for my config files so i put them here.

Well I don't know about that but it works for me.

My first screenshot has katapult up I think. There's another one for gnome but I'm unsure it's name.

I run Metacity with Gnome. I don't know that window manager.

Note: I can't run Trem with Beryl/Emerald (as the wm) while playing trem (that doesn't mix). My screenshots use beryl+emerald for the effects.
