Warning, this has probably be re-said several times already.
Seriously, what has happened to the community at Tremulous.net?
I joined a year or two ago, back when the forum was still a cool gray and green-blue. When Pulse was being made, I think. Anyways, everyone seemed kind and helpful, at least in the mapping forums. I posted screenshots and asked for help for inspiration, and the community graciously obliged me in a kind and helpful manner.

Now? It's all either off topic derailment, two word "WIN" or "FAIL" or " Sad Cool Roll Eyes Wink" replies. N00bs are treated like dirt, and are ignored or ridiculed. Ideas that are a little out of the normal expectations of Tremulous are shot down faster than 70 flak cannons down a Kirov in RA2. There are a few bright lights in the community (Lava Croft comes to mind because he is so nice and straightforward) but they are dwindiling fast.

Why? What is causing this? It hasn't spread to MG (Probably because of either the screening or because people are 'afraid' of gaming clans like I used to be and sterotypically assume that all clans are made of hard-ass gamers) but MG might soon become an oasis in an ocean of n00bs, one word replies, and downed ideas.

Feel free to discuss this without fear of (me) going "ZOMG N00b U PHAIL"

Nah, MG is pretty much by definition the opposite of that.

Amanieu and I are in the same boat on this one.  On Trem.net, if you look hard, you can find the people that know what they're talking about, but it seems that the general playerbase is getting younger.  The older people are a little bit jaded wiith the newer people as most people aren't newbies, they're noobs.  They don't exhibit much of a will to learn, generally speak in ways that cause me to be unable to take them seriously, there is a lot less respect in trem, and most ideas have no substance.  I came to MG because I find it to be a haven of sanity with rational people.

We should find all those reasonable people on trem.net, and ask them kindly to come over to mg.net. Then we can leave the noobs to rot in their own self-lulz and we'll all be happier.

"Going down hill" is an understatement. Hmm...maybe "Sinking like the Titanic"? "Falling like a Kirov shot down by 70 flak cannons"? I like my flak cannons.

Garoth is right, we should try to get the nice people over here and make a more kind, stable community.
Maybe if more people explained what MG is more people might be willing to join. Of course, we'd have to make sure the rules are abundantly clear and enforce those rules well.

I guess there really is a difference between n00b and newbie. A newbie is a new player like i used to be (Hopfully I was a newbie and not a n00b) who is willing to learn and be part of the community. A n00b is someone who is not willing to learn the rules and play right and generaly causes grief for the community. At least IMO.

I'm putting MG.net in my forum sig on Tremulous.net

Well, thanks. Certainly, we don't want too many people to come at once -- we could be overwhelmed. I think we're doing nicely here.

I was mainly pointing out the date of that post. It's been well over a year since trem.net basically hit the crapper.

Funny how you're noticing an ever greater change from one year ago though, didn't think it could get much worse :-P

I joined roughly a year ago and even then it was nicer than it is now.
Truth be told, though, I wouldn't have noticed it had I not stoped to think about where all the new moved threads were coming from. I had to stop and compare it to what I remembered a year ago and I was actually pretty shocked at the change.

Absolutely Not. He's changed considerably since a few years ago. I miss the old lava :-(
