If there is, all the more reason to ban them all 5x.

Anyway, he tried to "correct" his tag to be more like Roc's. Not innocent Tongue

He could thought that Rocinante was a member of his clan, and giving him a helpful advice by saying he got the tag wrong.

The part that shows he is an imposter is when he said he was in "MG" for 4 years. There weren't many clans in trem 4 years ago. (any?)

I don't think trem was around 4 years ago, but I could be wrong. I certainly have never heard of people who have played that long! That's like, early/pre-ubuntu era. Sooooo long ago.

I just checked, tremulous revision 1 was created 7 years ago.

To clarify:

Tremulous as a project has been ongoing for some seven years now. However, for about five of those, it was literal Quake 3 mod -- meaning you actually needed to buy Q3 to be able to run it. It was also not of such high quality as it is now. About two years ago, Tremulous was released as stand-alone and became greatly more popular as a result.

The Mercenaries Guild came along shortly after Standalone. As such, we're approaching two years also, though I suppose it's probably closer to 1.5 now. Some of us have been with it virtually from the start. Certainly some have dropped away also.

Well, not to say that our excrement has no odor or anything, but I can't imagine someone who's been playing Tremulous for four years has never heard of Mercenaries Guild, so even if it was a clan whose tag was the same you'd think by now they'd be used to being confused with us and saying "No, it stands for Mammaries Good" when someone asks them about their guild.

And regardless of that, he was rude :>

Ha, love people with the 1s and L's.

There's a clan by the name of |GT| that has like half of its members not knowing how to do |.

Ah, good old pipe. The hacker's friend, the newbies confuser. To make it more fun, most keyboards depict it as a split line instead of a solid one.

When I first tried SUSE and looked at the manual, it drove my insane trying to figure what key that was.

You read the manual!?
What were you thinking!
Quick, someone get some electrodes, he has a lot of "re-education" to undergo if he thinks such things to be acceptable or appropriate.

I can't find the re-education disk!
Oh wait, here's one, it's called "Why Llamas are sweet"
Hmm, odd name for an education disk but oh well, let's try it!

My older keyboard had a split line. I almost threw it away when I couldn't get it to actually *print* a split line on the screen...

Ah, good old pipe. The hacker's friend, the newbies confuser. To make it more fun, most keyboards depict it as a split line instead of a solid one.

My three most common uses of the good ol' pipe:

1. Math: absolute value, divisors, set definitions, function domain restrictions, etc.

2. Unix pipe, of course.

3. Logical "or" in many programming languages, regular expresssions, syntax definitions, etc.

So I like the little symbol, and I need it. That said, I think there are too many symbols that look alike. Mostly it depends on the font: in sans-serif fonts it is generally much harder to distinguish characters from eachother. But even in serif fonts I still get confused sometimes, especially in printed material where it has become impossible to actually inspect the byte and look what ascii value it has. I mean, how many different characters are there that look like a vertical bar?  I think there are at least 6:  I, i, 1, !, l, |. And depending on your font, some of those must look almost or exactly identical. Usually, a lowercase L  ("l")  looks either like a one ("1") or like a capital i ("I"). Lowercase i and "!" always have the gap, so they are not confusing, but if the pipe ("|") has a gap too, it could be confused with either of them, at a first glance. Anyway, if the pipe has no gap, it could look like an l or I again.

The problem is most troublesome in small fonts like subscripts. For instance, in mathematical notations, when indexing a variable, usually people use 1,2,3,..., and also i, j, k, l, ... Now, you see there are already 4 symbols (1,i,j,l) that can be hard to distinguish when written as a subscript. Things get even more confusing with nested indices (because the font gets even smaller).

So in conclusion, I like the pipe, because it is useful. I don't like the way it looks, because there's already plenty of symbols that look like that. But I guess it's up to the people that use it to use it in a non-ambiguous way.
